I have looked for these cookies for 5 years. The manager at walmart told me they were a seasonal item Christmas, maybe Thanksgiving. I called every week last year and never found them. I can't even find chocolate gram crackers. Once in awhile I can find the chocolate teddy bears. Someone told me they were the same as the waffers, but they aren't. however they CAN be used in a pinch!

I am very disappointed that all the stores in my area have stopped selling Nabisco Chocolate Wafers. I love them with milk and they are the only plain chocolate cookie you can buy anywhere.

Why are they so elusive?

We haven't had them in Charleston, West Virginia for years. I use them to make a lime dessert (lime jello whipped with evaporated milk and sugar and then layered with crushed icebox cookies). I have resorted to buying a chocolate ready made pie crust and breaking it apart.

Our Kroger carries them...the trick is that they are with the ice cream toppings...not in the cookie isle.

I am amazed. I live in St Thomas, US Virgin Islands. I discovered this fascinating recipe for "icebox cake" watching the "Barefoot Contessa". Her personal recipe called for chocolate chip cookies. I liked the idea of chocolate wafers once I did some searching for the recipe online. Nabisco Famous Chocolate Wafers were available in LA (my home state) and in Rhode Island where I lived for five years. I remember seeing them here.... like the Zieback (sp?) children's biscuit I used to use for the crust of a cheese cake. Neither are easy to fine. Zieback has totally disappeared in the States and I have never seen them here. Sad. However, I have found the chocolate wafers for $6.40 for a 9 ounce box. I thought that was expensive. Now I find that I am lucky to have found them at all. Cool. I will be making a mocha chocolate icebox cake for dessert for Saturday night. I think it will be great and the hunt has been fun!

Publix Supermarkets carry these cookies.
You can find them on the isolated shelf with the sprinkles and U-bet syrup.

Wish they'd bring back the actual ICEBOX cookies.
I can't find anything on the internet.
I swear they are the same cookie, except that they are square. The box was multiple shades of blue.

We have them in Maine! Shaw's supermarkets carry them for about 4.79 a box. Get your New England friends to send you some! That's what I'm doing for my friend in Florida.
